  • misterwolf Meanwhile, wise emperor Yoshi, the ruler of Yoshi Island and the leader of the Smash Brothers, is denied freedom by the Grand Council of the Universe to aid his team in the award against Bowser and his army; however, he threatens to break his oath as their confidant if they attempt to terminate the team. To compensate for his reluctant decision to not make an appearance in the war, Yoshi instructs captain Kevin Keene to assume temporary command of the Smash Brothers until the council gives up and lifts his oath. Meggy is informed by Fox McCloud that the Smash Brother's list of members and allies are limited, and will thus need help to defeat Bowser. Meggy and her sisters Marie and Callie agree to help.

  • misterwolf The sisters travel to Brooklyn, New York, as a means to seek the help of Mario, who is famous for saving the city from a sewer clogging. Mario, who has become an overweight alcoholic, refuses to help as he gave up on humanity; however, his younger brother Luigi, who is a ghost hunter, offers to go with them in his place, admitting that he saw a strange cloud in the form of Bowser a few days ago, and the sisters accept his offer. Knowing that they cannot fight their common enemy alone, Luigi reluctantly turns to the fraudster and con artist Toad. Wanting to seek redemption for his crimes and deception by joining the Smash Brothers, he agrees.

  • misterwolf Yoshi realizes that Bowser is not working alone, and learns that Ganondorf is working with him; he concludes that Ganondorf's death will temporarily change the tide of the war, and marks him as the primary target of the Smash Brothers. When he is told by McCloud that he contacted the Squid Sisters to help, the emperor summons them to Yoshi Island. He asks for Meggy, and the two have a conversation.

  • misterwolf Yoshi reveals to Meggy that he had a vision of her saving the world from an unidentified enemy by running him through with a spear, causing her to be respected as a hero and future leader of the Smash Brothers, replacing him. She heeds his wisdom and guidance, and follows his warning that if this is her fate, she should not try to escape it. Keene arrives with Tari, Luigi, and Toad, who are accepted into the team, as are the sisters; Mario, who has a change of heart after realizing that the sisters were not lying, abandons his alcoholism and joins the Smash Brothers.

  • misterwolf Also rediscovering his humanity, Mario accepts the offer of all three power-ups given by Yoshi, which are a mushroom, enabling him to grow slightly taller, which he gives to Luigi; a fire flower, granting him fire abilities and changes the color of his clothes; and an invincibility star, granting him durability and strength. Luigi equips the mushroom, which allows him to grow slightly bigger, and grants him super strength. Yoshi breaks his oath, forcing the council to disband out of disgrace for this decision, and he joins his team in fighting Ganondorf. He reveals to Meggy that he found out in his vision that she was fighting Ganondorf, and tells her that she is is chosen one.

  • misterwolf Meggy agrees to accept this possible fate should it occur, before the team arrives in the destroyed city of San Francisco. During a rainstorm, the Smash Brothers witness Keene and McCloud fighting Bowser's airships alone. Bowser himself emerges, and he reveals that the reason why he wants to conquer the universe is because he wants to take over the Mushroom Realm upon reaching it and then marry its princess; Yoshi replies "She'd never marry a monster like you, Bowser!". They both battle each other, with Bowser eventually overpowering and nearly killing Yoshi, forcing Mario to engage him instead with his power-ups, while the Smash Brothers aid Keene and McCloud in their conflict with the airships. Meggy, who was subdued and knocked unconscious by Bowser, awakens and confronts Ganondorf, who reveals himself as the wizard who destroyed the Squid Sisters' homeland in the waters of Britain. Enraged, Meggy attacks Ganondorf, and a violent fight erupts, destroying much of the city's remnants. The fight eventually reaches a statement when Ganondorf is about to kill Meggy, but Yoshi, who recovers his strength, saves her and is impaled instead, willing to sacrifice himself, while Keene and McCloud destroy most of the airships and activate a portal, banishing Bowser. Meggy kills Ganondorf with a spear, and his fades to dust; a dying Yoshi tells Meggy that the future of the Smash Brothers will be bright with her in his place as their leader, and then he dies of his injuries.

  • misterwolf In the aftermath, the Smash Brothers are honored as heroes, and the Squid Sisters sing victory music, including "Calamari Inkantation". As Bowser swears revenge, Meggy becomes the new leader of the Smash Brothers and vows to guard both the earth and the universe as the end credits roll.
