The plot of the film follows much of the first game relatively close – while adding and/or expanding on a few things as well. Sly Cooper, along with his two partners-in-crime (and surrogate brothers), Bentley the Turtle and Murray the Hippo, are indeed a gang of master thieves, but their legendary status isn't quite there yet (but they're on the road towards it). However, the three of them embark on a globe-trotting adventure to track down the Fiendish Five – which consists of Sr. Raleigh the Frog, Muggshot, Mz. Ruby, The Panda King, and the enigmatic, yet murderous, Clockwerk – to recover Thievius Raccoonus, an ancestral tome chronicling the Cooper family's legendary thieving ways; all while Interpol officer, Inspector Carmelita Fox is hot on the Cooper gang's tails.
