a princess named Briar-Rose is cursed by a fairy to prick her finger on a spindle and fall into a deep sleep. A good fairy intervenes, changing the curse to a hundred-year slumber instead of death. The entire castle and court are put to sleep along with the princess, and a thorny hedge grows around the castle. After a century, a prince finds the castle and awakens Briar-Rose with a kiss, restoring the kingdom to its former state.
