Sharpfin, like Tessa, comes from the Cloudbreak Islands—but due to Baron Von Shellshock taking over his position of Baron of Motleyville at Kaos's command, he's been forced to come to the Skylanders for help, and later helps them in their fight against Kaos as part of the deal they made. Despite his checkered background, he's a noble sort who doesn't forget his dues and is loyal to those who've helped him in the past.
