In a distant swamp lives Shrek, a lonely ogre whose life is suddenly invaded by a series of fairytale characters, such as three blind mice, a big bad wolf, and three homeless pigs. They have all been expelled from their homes by the evil Lord Farquaad. Determined to regain his former peace, Shrek decides to find Farquaad and makes a deal: all the characters can return to their homes if he and his friend Donkey rescue a beautiful princess who is imprisoned by a dragon. However, when Shrek and Donkey finally manage to rescue the princess, they soon discover that their problems are only just beginning.
