When brilliant Chicago teen Light Turner discovers a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it, he decides to become the divine vigilante "Kira" and purge the world of criminals. As his body count rises, the world's greatest detective—the eccentric recluse known only as "L"—closes in, turning their hunt into a deadly game of psychological chess. But Light's quest for utopia comes at a devastating cost: his girlfriend Naomi dies reaching for him on a bridge, his father is broken by suspicion, and Light himself must sacrifice his memories to survive. In the end, he faces an impossible choice—renounce the Death Note forever, or embrace the monster he has become.
