Synopsis

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s and 1990s Texas, "Selena: Queen of Tejano" follows the journey of Selena Quintanilla, a young girl with big dreams and undeniable talent. Raised in a tight-knit Mexican-American family, Selena's passion for music blossoms under the guidance of her father, Abraham Quintanilla, who forms the family band, Selena y Los Dinos, with Selena and her siblings. As Selena's star begins to rise, she faces numerous challenges, from discrimination in the male-dominated music industry to the pressures of fame and the relentless demands of touring. But through it all, Selena remains true to herself, embracing her cultural heritage and using her platform to empower others. The film delves into Selena's groundbreaking achievements, including her chart-topping albums, sold-out concerts, and historic Grammy win, as well as her profound impact on Latino representation in mainstream media. At the heart of the story is Selena's deep love for her family, especially her husband, Chris Perez, whose forbidden romance adds a poignant layer to her journey.

Description of Yolanda Saldívar:

Yolanda Saldívar is an American former nurse who was convicted of murdering Tejano musician Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in 1995. Born in San Antonio, Saldívar had been the president of Selena's fan club and the manager of her boutiques, but she lost both positions a short time before the murder, when the singer's family discovered that she had been embezzling money from both organizations.
