In this iteration, Mike Nelson is a former US Navy SEAL and expert scuba diver, frequently engaged in some exploration or engineering project, from fish surveys to covert missions to the occasional rescue or just providing scuba lessons. Frequently accompanying him aboard his motor yacht "Argonaut" are his daughter Debbie Nelson, a marine archaeologist, and her boyfriend Aidan Savage, a film maker and reserve detective; both also instructor level scuba divers. This is set in the present (2020s) day primarily in the five-county area of coastal Southern California.
