Wealthy construction engineer James T. Blackwood and his wife Catherine lived in Blackwood Manor in Rothbury, England. James was accused of murdering Catherine in 1963, leading to the manor being owned by their friend, Doctor Christopher Milton. James died from a heart attack shortly after, with suspicions of suicide in Rothbury. The case was closed due to lack of evidence. In 1970, Christopher disappeared without a trace. American author Michael Arthate became the new owner in 1976, seeking seclusion but instead uncovering the manor's disturbing history. He discovered the scratching noises were created by James and Catherine's deformed son Robin locked in the basement. Michael fled, later writing a successful novel inspired by his chilling experience.
