First grade teacher, Nicole Richards works at an elementary school, until one night, she collapses while going to bed. At the hospital, Nicole finds out she has Stage-4 Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, forcing her to resign from her job. Along the way, her snobby and philandering boyfriend, Derek McDonough is having an affair with softball coach, Victoria Fitzgerald, much to the shock of her 20-something boyfriend, John Halsey, who suddenly takes a liking to Brenda(Nicole's best friend) and grows interested in her, despite being in love with Nicole.
