Story Plot
This takes place in the 70s, and no this doesn't take place in the MCU, it takes place in the Raimiverse and since Doctor Strange was mentioned in Spider-Man 2, it is best to portray who he was, this show is supposed to be a revival to the old Doctor Strange movies back in the 70s so yeah.
