Story Plot

Washington Irving's timeless classic comes to life from Walt Disney Animation Studios and the creators of Frozen and Moana. In this enchanting twist, Rip Van Winkle tells the story of Ripella "Rip" Van Winkle, an adventurous woman who roamed into the Catskill Mountains and fell asleep for twenty years and awoke as an elderly woman.

    The inspiration for me to turn the title character Rip Van Winkle from male to female came from Helen Mirren's performance as Prospera in The Tempest (2010). In the original play Prospera was a male wizard and his name was "Prospero". Which also inspired the name change from just Rip to "Ripella" and use Rip as a nickname.
