Tragedy shaped the kind of man Bruce Wayne would become. When he was 8 years old, he had witnessed his parents Thomas and Martha being murdered by a street thug named Joe Chill. The fear he felt would motivate him to take a pledge to fight against crime and injustice. Over time, Bruce would train himself in many fields of martial arts, science, and more to help him. When he would return to Gotham City, he would try to do what he could with his training, but learned he needed an edge. When a bat crashed through the window of Wayne Manor, his home, Bruce was inspired to use the bat as a symbol, using fear against the cowardly nature of criminals, becoming the Batman.
