James Bond, 007, rebooted & placed back into a period setting of the 1950s during the height of the Cold War. This sets up a new run of films by introducing recurring characters and story strands. Soviet assassin ‘Red’ Grant is tasked with taking out his ‘opposite number’, the British asset only known by the code name 007. The phantom agent has taken too many ‘key pieces off of the board’ for his employer organisation, SPECTRE’s, liking.
