Razor in the Dark is a 2027 American urban fantasy action thriller film based on the Mortal Kombat character Kitana created by Ed Boon, produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by New Line Cinema. It is the first installment in the Mortal Kombat Tournament Universe. Directed by Matthew Vaughn from a screenplay by Boon, Simon McQuoid, and Jeremy Slater, the film stars Paris Jackson as Kitana, alongside Elle Fanning, Milla Jovovich, Isaiah Washington, Kevin Durand, Jensen Ackles, Brian Tee, Mark Dacascos, Ben Wang, Laurence Fishburne, Keanu Reeves, and Alexander Skarsgård. In the film, a self-imposed exiled Kitana, who has earned a reputation as an assassin, reluctantly comes out of hiding to fight against her evil stepfather Shao Kahn's quest to wipe out all realms and rebuild them in his own image after she is approached by Raiden and later discovers herself to have been chosen by the Elder Gods to fight. Razor in the Dark had its world premiere at the 84th Venice International Film Festival on November 1st, 2027; opening in theaters on November 25th, the film received generally positive reviews from fans and critics alike, who praised Jackson's performance and grounded take on several characters, as well as its action sequences and reimagining of the central character's origin. It was also a box-office success, becoming the highest-grossing Mortal Kombat film of all time after it earned $716 million worldwide. A sequel is in development, focusing on Kitana fully taking her fight directly to Shao Kahn.
