A chameleon who once lived as a pet finds himself in the midst of an identity crisis. Rango wonders how to stand out when it is in his nature to blend in. He accidentally ends up in a frontier town called Dirt and takes the first step toward transformation by becoming sheriff. Although he initially only puts on an act, a series of thrilling situations and scandalous encounters force Rango to become a true hero.
