"Powerless," the first book in the series by Lauren Roberts, is a young adult fantasy novel set in a kingdom where people are granted magical powers after a plague. The story centers on Paedyn Gray, an "Ordinary" (someone without powers) who disguises herself as an Elite to survive. When she unexpectedly saves a prince, she's forced to participate in the Purging Trials, a dangerous competition where she must prove her "Elite" powers while also desperately trying to keep her secret.
