Overwatch is set on a near-future, fictionalized Earth, roughly 30 years after a global AI rebellion known as the "Omnic Crisis". An international task force, Overwatch, was formed to end the war, bringing peace for decades before internal corruption and political scandals led to its disbandment and the legal prohibition of its activities under the Petras Act.
