The older sister of Diane Scott, Kate was the maternal aunt of half-sisters Lucy and Natalie Scott, as well as a surrogate mother figure for Diane's unacknowledged eldest daughter, Lucy. When Diane became pregnant after their senior year of high school to boyfriend Kevin Roe, who was also Kate's high school crush, Diane gave birth to Lucy and then left both her and Kevin to pursue a scholarship at college. While there, however, Diane became pregnant again this time to her college boyfriend, Dennis Lee, and married him soon thereafter. While she dropped out of college to raise her second daughter, Natalie, Diane never acknowledged her firstborn daughter with Kevin, Lucy.
