As Tozai news celebrates its 100th anniversary, cynical and lazy journalist Shiro Yamaoka and the newly hired Yuko Kurita are tasked with finding and then writing the "ultimate menu" of dishes from Japan and the world. Along the way they meet various friends and roadblocks, the most prominent of whom is Shiro's father Yuzan Kaibara, an artist with a gourmet palate and a nasty temper that Shiro blames for sending his mother to an early grave.
