1 comment on Oh Carol!

  • jakubduda In Marseille, a woman named Carol sings torch songs in a smoky tavern under a false name. Her past follows her like a shadow. Back in London in flashback, Carol was a music producer’s gf, a man who treated her like trophy. Her true love was Jake, a struggling guitarist. When he told her, “If you think you love me, then maybe you should prove it,” she couldn’t, not then. Carol disappeared next day. Jake never got over her. Years pass. Then one day, he hears a live radio performance of an old ballad they wrote together. He knows it’s her voice. Fueled by love and regret, he begins to follow the trail. First stop: Spain, where an old friend says “She’s with a man who pays for love.” She is with millionaire. Some time later Jake ends up in Mexico in small border town. Locals whisper about a Mexican girl who sings about lost love at underground clubs. Its not mexican, her again, always just out of reach. He finally finds Carol in Prague, performing at a private event. She see him from the stage and her voice falters. Later that night, he leaves her a note: “I’ll meet you at midnight. Come if you still believe in us.” She shows up. They talk about everything, betrayal, cowardice, the missed years. Jake says, “It’s your life. But if you’re still searching for home, I never stopped waiting.” She cries. They kiss. They go on the road together, performing songs they wrote in youth. Carol is offered a contract, solo. They part once more, not out of anger, but love. Years later, Jake plays in small pub at San Francisco Bay. Someone requests an old song. He smiles, starts strumming “Needles and pins…” In the back of the room, Carol listens in silence, then quietly slips away into the night. He run to her as his song playing in background: I saw her today, I saw her face, it was a face I love. Jake stops her and she cry, he tells her: "Will you leave me again?" She shaked her head as no.
