Neon Cathedral
Original Stage Musical
Mira Kelmendi, 29, the London-born daughter of Albanian immigrants, runs Neon Cathedral, a legendary East End nightclub converted from a deconsecrated church. When developer Jules Whitmore offers to buy the building for luxury flats, the club has one summer to find the money or close. Mira turns to the community that made the place: dancers, bar staff, a retired church custodian, and her own mother, who cleans the club at dawn and has never once been inside at night. DJ Danny Osei, 31, offers her a series of final-night events that could save it, and a partnership that might be more. The show is a big, bright dance-pop musical about a room that belongs to everyone, and about what a community owes the place that held it.
