Promiscuity, Addiction, and Black Metal
Set in early-2000s Portland, Oregon, this gritty drama finds the charismatic, egotistical Rob Clifford and the equally egotistical and hot-headed Dave Kicker, having shared a brotherly bond since their early days of high school, starting a new atmospheric folk/black metal band, Nature's Lost Intake, with Rob as both the frontman and rhythm guitarist, and Dave on lead guitar. Their friend, Tony Fullerton, his intimidating appearance acting as a shell for his extreme introversion, joins them on bass. Recruiting session drummer Diego Marquez, they set out performing as an opening act for various bands at local venues while simultaneously beginning the process of recording an album. While performing at a seedy club, the band members encounter exotic dancer and groupie Seraphina Noelle, who accompanies them back to where they are staying. After a night of indulging with the band in alcohol and drugs, she winds up in bed with Rob, who, afterwards, believes the two of them are in a relationship. Seraphina showcases to the band her skills as a photographer and artist, capturing deep emotional images of the band members and shots of the Pacific Northwest landscape, combined with designing the band's logo, creating the album's artwork and seemingly cementing her role within the band. However, she later sneaks off with Dave and seduces him, making him believe that they're in a relationship as well. The observant Diego eventually figures out what's going on and reveals Seraphina's lies to the group before walking out. Tony, who had harbored his own feelings for Seraphina but hadn't acted on them, watches as his two friends have a bitter falling out. After lending a sympathetic ear to Seraphina as she tearfully expresses remorse for her actions, he convinces her to attend rehab as he attempts to fix what may be broken beyond repair. He finishes recording his bass tracks for the album before departing the band as well, having come to the sad realization of just how toxic his friends are. Rob and Dave slowly begin to repair their friendship while knowing that things most likely will never be the same as before. They convince Diego to return and finish recording his drum tracks to complete the album. Meanwhile, Tony, having started a solo project, greets a clean and sober Seraphina, her hair having returned to its natural brown color, her face free of makeup, her nose ring gone, with a hug, telling her that he's glad she's okay. They get into his car. As they drive away, he puts on a CD with a song he wrote for her, which plays as the credits roll.
