William Laws Calley Jr. (1943 – 2024) was a United States Army officer who was convicted by court-martial for the murder of 22 unarmed South Vietnamese civilians in the My Lai massacre on March 16, 1968, during the Vietnam War. Through a series of political meddling and appeals, Calley only served three years of house arrest, and lived in seclusion for years afterwards.
