The Kiheitai, a group of jouishishi extremists who wanted to overthrow the Bakufu and destroy the rotten world. Description of Nakamura Hanjiro (Assasin from Satsuma domain/Minor Antagonist):

A hitokiri who harbors vengeance towards Josuke Narukami. During his days as Kagekiri, Josuke kills bunch of yakuza members from the Mashiroi group. Among the ones that died is the leader, Mashiroi Kaguzou, who is the adoptive father of Hanjiro. The latter was a loyal follower of Kaguzou and is considered the big brother of the syndicate. After knowing that Kaguzou and his men were brutally murdered, Hanjiro gone insane and become a bloodthirsty murderer, going so far as to kill random innocent people in order to enact his vengeance
