Mortal Kombat: Queen of Edenia is a 2029 American urban fantasy martial arts action thriller film based on the Mortal Kombat game franchise created by Ed Boon. Produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by New Line Cinema, it is the third installment in the Mortal Kombat Tournament Universe and a sequel to Mortal Kombat: Champion of the Gods, as well as the conclusion of phase one. Directed by Matthew Vaughn from a screenplay by Boon, Simon McQuoid, and Jeremy Slater, the film features an ensemble cast including Paris Jackson, Elle Fanning, Milla Jovovich, Isaiah Washington, Kevin Durand, Jensen Ackles, Jai Courtney, Jon Bernthal, Jason Momoa, Anya Chalotra, Benedict Wong, Ian Anthony Dale, Daniel Wu, Mark Dacascos, Ben Wang, Laurence Fishburne, Keanu Reeves, and Alexander Skarsgård. In the film, Kitana and the remaining Earthrealm defenders attempt to resurrect their fallen companions, cross paths with a corrupted, vengeful revenant of Jade, and prepare for a final confrontation with Shao Kahn. Mortal Kombat: Queen of Edenia had its world premiere at the 86th Venice International Film Festival on October 9th, 2029, and was released theatrically on November 23rd. The film was praised by fans and critics for its acting (particularly Jackson, Durand, Chalotra, and Skarsgård), VFX, direction, storyline, themes, action sequences, Hans Zimmer's musical score, the dark tone and emotional weight. It was also a financial success like its predecessors, grossing $916 million worldwide. A sequel is in development.
