After being bitten by a genetically altered (or radioactive) spider, a teenage boy named Peter Parker gains superhuman powers — including incredible strength, the ability to cling to walls, and a “spider-sense” that alerts him to danger. Initially using his abilities for personal gain, Peter suffers a tragic loss when his beloved Uncle Ben is killed — a consequence of Peter’s earlier selfish choices. Haunted by the lesson that “with great power comes great responsibility,” Peter vows to use his powers to protect the people of New York City. As Spider-Man, he battles various villains — from the Green Goblin to Doctor Octopus — all while struggling to balance his double life as an ordinary student and a masked hero.
