Famed atomic physicist Otto Gunther Octavius was fused to a set of articulated robotic appendages in an experiment gone wrong. Enraged by his failure, Otto swore revenge on his employers and all others who got in his way. He quickly became a foe of the Spider-Man, and was dubbed Doctor Octopus.
