In the mid-19th century, schoolteacher Carter Slade moved out west to create a better life for himself. Shot and left for dead by a group of drunken United States army men, Carter was saved by the sorceress Kushala, who preserved his spirit as the guide of the vengeant, the spectral Phantom Rider.
