He was blinded at young age in a chemical accident that also gave him special abilities like superhuman senses, agility, reflexes, stamina, coordination, and balance. He was the son of Jack Murdock, a boxer, and Margaret Grace, a nun. However, his mother left when he was young and his father was killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight, leaving Matt orphan. He eventually went into tutelage of a blind sensei known as "Stick", who trained Matt to become a highly skilled martial artist. In adulthood, Matt graduated from Columbia University and began fighting crime in Hell's Kitchen as Daredevil.
