Alexei Shostakov, Soviet super soldier Red Guardian, worked with Dreykov and went undercover in Ohio with Melina Vostokoff, posing as parents to Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova to destroy a HYDRA facility in 1995. Jailed for criticizing Russia, he was freed in 2016 to dismantle the Red Room, defeating Dreykov. Years later, learning Valentina Allegra de Fontaine plotted to kill Belova, Shostakov formed the Thunderbolts with her, U.S. Agent, and Ghost to save Manhattan from Bob Reynolds’ Void. After saving Bob, de Fontaine redubbed them New Avengers. Fourteen months later, they saw the Fantastic Four’s spaceship enter Earth’s orbit.
