Marvel Spotlight is focus more on "grounded, character-driven stories" and less about impacting the larger MCU narrative. Head of streaming Brad Winderbaum explained that it was created as a way to indicate to audiences that they did not need to watch any other MCU projects to understand Spotlight series, as is the case with reading Marvel Comics. The banner is inspired by the Marvel Spotlight anthology comics from 1971–81.
