Dr. Bentley Wittman grew up possessing near-superhuman levels of genius, and used these skills to great success in a variety of fields, having been a chess champion, renowned escape artist, and become rich selling his advanced scientific inventions to the wealthy. He first took the title The Wizard as a stage name, using his technology to perform feats of stage "magic." Following the birth of the super hero group known as the Fantastic Four,[15] the exploits of this team of adventurers -- particularly those of their youngest member the Human Torch -- became the center of the media's attention.
