The series is a psychological thriller that doubles as a character study: who are you when you have no past? Which parts of yourself return when memory does, and which parts were better left behind? The romance element arrives mid-season when Maya forms a connection with Elijah, a Savannah-based detective assigned to her case, built on the specific intimacy of someone who knows things about you that you don't know about yourself. Season 1 — The Waking Maya with no past, assembling herself from what others tell her and what her instincts insist. The romance with Elijah develops through the intimacy of being known by someone when you don't know yourself. Season 2 — The Reckoning Memory fully restored. Maya must reckon with who she was and choose who she will be. The relationship with Elijah survives the truth, but differently.
