Kamen Rider: Cartridge Charge is an adaption of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. It is the twenty-seventh series overall and the eighteenth of the Knight Era series. The series started on TBD, 2017, joining Power Rangers Animal CubeIcon-crosswiki in airing after the finale of Kamen Rider: Spirit Knight. Starting on February TBD, 2018, the series was joined by Power Rangers Quantum LeapIcon-crosswiki in airing. After the finale of Kamen Rider: Cartridge Charge, Kamen Rider: Invent Force joined Quantum Leap in airing.

The motif of the series is retro video gaming, as the Riders of the show utilize game cartridges called Gamer Cartridges and have gear and form motifs inspired by retro video games. The series also integrates medical drama into the story because one of the main settings is a hospital and some of the main Riders are doctors. The tagline of the show is "Let the Game Start!".
