Justice Society is a 2000 American superhero film directed by Bryan Singer and written by David Hayter from a story by Singer and Tom DeSanto. The film is based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name, created by Gardner Fox and editor Sheldon Mayer, and features an ensemble cast consisting of Pierce Brosnan, Rachel Weisz, Ian McKellen, Michael Shanks, Halle Berry, Neil Patrick Harris, John Wesley Shipp, Kristen Wiig, Ray Park and Jonathan Cake. The film depicts Wonder Woman (Rachel Weisz) who has been a legend for decades being recruited into the Justice Society, the team is lead by Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan) and includes Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Alan Scott (Neil Patrick Harris) Yolanda Montez aka Wildcat (Halle Berry) and Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) as they face off against the Injustice Society lead by The Wizard, with other members including The Shade, Cheetah and The Fiddler. In the End, The Shade and Fiddler die, the Wizard gets arrested and Cheetah gets away, another fact is that in the comics, Alan Scott and Jay Garrick were the original Green Lantern and Flash in the comics, however they couldn’t use those names for them due to rights issues. Justice Society premiered at Ellis Island on July 12, 2000, and was released in the United States on July 14. It was a box office success, grossing over $296.3 million worldwide, and received positive reviews from critics, citing its action scenes, writing, the performances of Weisz, Shanks, Harris, Berry, Shipp, Brosan and McKellen, especially Weisz and Shanks’s portrayals of Wonder Woman and Hawkman, story, and thematic depth.
