When the ones they love are the ones in danger.
Set in early 2013. After the mysterious death of Sue Dibny, the wife of Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, a string of similarly devastating deaths happen around other heroes loved ones. Shortly afterward, Alfred Pennyworth is nearly killed in a box rigged with an explosive inside. Then, Shazam's adopted mother, Rosa Vasquez, is found paralyzed in her home. Tula, Aquagirl is murdered. John Zatana is critically injured. Bonnie King, Arrowette is scared into retirement. The Suicide Squad gets involved, but its members sent out go rogue, and only Silver Banshee decides to not flee (she is rewarded for this by shortened sentence). It's found out that the perpetrator is the ex-wife of Ray Palmer, the second Atom. The events in this film rock the hero community. Elongated Man and Aquaman retire, John Zatara is critically injured and forced into retirement. Off-world, the League is informed that Hal Jordan has died during the Sinestro Corps War- while not directly a part of this conflict, it only mounts the chaos. After the conflict is over, Atom, consumed by guilt and anger, disappears into the Nanoverse. The horrific warring leaves Batman more paranoid than ever, expanding his Brother Eye system to ensure he has his eyes on everyone...
