  • otsutsuki The series begins with a flashback, exorcist and con artist John Constantine and Jason Blood engage the Demons Three in a game of high-stakes poker; Constantine offers his home, the House of Mystery, as part of the pool in exchange for a box of artifacts, including a chipped Dreamstone. When both parties are caught cheating, Constantine has Blood summon Etrigan, a demon forced to share a body with Blood in order to dispatch the demons. Afterwards, Blood punches Constantine for making him summon Etrigan, and the two part ways, in the present, a magical threat arises causing violent murders to be committed by law-abiding people all over the world, who think their victims are demonic creatures in Gotham. Alfred concludes that magic can be the source of the crimes, but Batman is skeptical. Bruce goes to a magic show where he meets Giovanni Zatara and his daughter Zatanna "Z" Zatara they say they can't help but meet a supernatural Detective named John Constantine, Zatanna is reluctant to ask John for help when Batman is possessed by Boston Brand who convinces Z to find John, Zatanna and Boston take Bruce to the House of Mystery, where they meet Constantine, who is reluctantly working with a team. The group is also joined by Black Orchid, the spiritual embodiment of the House of Mystery and they decide to investigate the cause behind these supernatural occurrences. The team then visits Ritchie Simpson, an old friend of Constantine and Zatanna, where they find spirits of Death waiting to collect Ritchie's soul on his next death. Simpson has cancer and is resentful of Constantine for abandoning him to his fate, but lends them the Keshanti Key. Constantine and Zatanna use the key to see one of the victim's memories and discover that he was possessed by an unknown entity, at which point Zatanna convinces Bruce to leave this investigation to them so Bruce can focus on a new murder in Gotham (Batman Solo Film Events), then the team is attacked by a magical creature that is conjured to consume the man, but Deadman, Constantine, and Zatanna narrowly escape and destroy him, Back at Ritchie's house, the team finds him close to death; Jason is also there to find the Dream Stone. Constantine chases after Blood while Zatanna uses magic to revitalize Ritchie. Upon being caught by Constantine, Blood explains that centuries ago the sorcerer Destiny possessed the Dream Stone in an attempt to overthrow Camelot-era Britain, using it to make people see their worst nightmares and feed on their torment. Jason was mortally wounded by cutting the Dream Stone in half. Merlin summoned Etrigan to defeat Destiny and later linked him to Jason because Merlin knew they would be needed in the future. Ritchie briefly wakes up to claim Felix Faust as his attacker. John leaves to ask for help from the elemental Alec Holland / Swamp Thing who is convinced to help as the "Green" will be exterminated if they fail, the group locates Faust's Cosmos Observatory. Fausto starts to face the team and defeats them but before something bad happens Giovanni Zatara appears and faces him and defeats him but by letting his guard down Faust seriously wound him, Zatanna taken by fury defeats Fausto, the team concludes that Fausto had absolutely none involvement in hurting Ritchie or the nightmare crimes. Zatanna and Boston leave for the hospital to take Giovanni and John and Holland go to Ritchie who awakens and is revealed to have the other piece of the Dream Stone, which keeps his cancer in remission; he apparently destroys Black Orchid. Constantine tries to reason with Ritchie, that the Dream Stone (with Destiny's soul trapped inside) is using him. However, the Dreamstone takes over Ritchie's body and transforms him into Destiny. At the hospital Giovanni's spirit arises and advises Zatanna to help his team and that she has the potential to be a better user of magic than him, Fate destroys the House and sets out to start a frenzy Zatanna saves the group, but passes out with the effort. . the team tries to fight Destiny, but he makes them perceive themselves as demonic threats, so they attack each other. Etrigan attacks Destiny but is easily defeated by Swamp Thing, who attacks Destiny, Destiny nearly rips Alec Holland's corpse off Swamp Thing, but John stops him from doing so, Constantine tricks Destiny into bringing him and Deadman inside his shield protector, allowing Deadman to distract Destiny. Etrigan, fatally wounds Destiny with a sword, while Constantine and Zatanna destroy the Dream Stone (and Destiny's body), bringing back Ritchie who is dragged to Hell for his sins and as a guarantee that Destiny cannot return. Zatanna agrees to join the League and offers Constantine, Jason, Swamp Thing, and Deadman a position as well. They refuse, claiming Batman would not approve, but Zatanna claims it was Batman's idea. John, Jason and Boston return to the now rebuilt House of Mystery, Swamp Thing returns to its swamp, and Zatanna goes to visit her father in the hospital when Bruce Wayne comes out and offers her support and thanks her for taking care of this problem he says Giovanni would be proud of her, he leaves and a mysterious man appears and we see Kent Nelson visiting Giovanni and he talks to Zatanna and says he is an old friend of her father and they have a lot to talk about, in Gotham Alfred tells Batman that a new wave of murders of city tycoons are taking place and a envelope with an owl stamped on the letter was left at the scene. Post credits scene from the last episode: We see John, Jason and Boston again playing Poker with the Demons Three, being watched by a mysterious figure who reveals himself as Papa Midnite who promises revenge against John saying "A life for a life"...

  • castingsinmyblood This is a little too similar to the Justice League Dark animated movie for my tastes

  • misterwolf I'm generally positive, with praise being aimed at the action sequences and performances. But criticism aimed at the overuse of storytelling, because I agree with Casting, it's a little too similar. It's also got an overly dark tonal approach to the team, and it shouldn't be too dark, just like with that man of steel sequel you made. Other than that, it works.
