The story of Just Cause (2006) follows CIA operative Rico Rodriguez sent to the fictional Caribbean island nation of San Esperito to overthrow its dictator, Salvador Mendoza, who is rumored to have Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). Teaming up with his handler Tom Sheldon, fellow agent Maria Kane, and local rebels/cartels, Rico destabilizes the regime through massive chaos, ultimately dismantling Mendoza's rule and proving the WMD threat.
