1930s. Mary Narrow, a naïve and dreamy singer from rural lands, auditions for the lead in Joyful Mary, a feel-good musical about a young girl swept away to a success. To everyone's surprise, including her own, she lands the role. Overnight, she’s catapulted to stardom. The production is a spectacle of lights, color, and charm — but beneath the surface lies exploitation, manipulation, and tightly controlled studio politics. Mary begins to question what’s real, both in the movie and her own life, as her offscreen relationships start to mirror the plot of the musical itself. read more
