A few years into his career as Iron Man, Tony Stark has become a global celebrity. No longer simply the billionaire heir to Stark Industries, he is a public hero, celebrity, and the face of a technological age. But with that attention come enemies. Corporations want to destroy his reputation, while criminals and governments want Iron Man's technology. Tony believes he can handle anyone coming after him, until someone launches an attack designed not to kill him, but to take everything away.The attack begins when Spymaster steals Stark technology and secrets. Meanwhile, the mysterious Ghost sabotages Stark Industries from within. Ghost infiltrates Tony's systems, causes disasters that make the public question Stark Industries. Tony fights on multiple fronts as Spymaster sells stolen technology, Ghost destroys his company, and the media questions his leadership.Tony eventually discovers the attacks were not random. The mastermind is Justin Hammer, a longtime rival of the Stark family. Hammer believes Tony's success destroyed his company's future. With Tony distracted by being Iron Man, Hammer sees a chance to destroy the Stark name. He hired Spymaster and Ghost to steal Tony's technology, drain his fortune, and damage Stark Industries beyond repair. But Hammer wants more than Tony's business; he wants Iron Man's technology.Before Tony can confront Hammer, however, he must deal with Obadiah Stane. Stane exploits the chaos. Stane stands between Tony and the truth. By the end, Tony learns Hammer was behind the conspiracy, setting up a larger conflict. Iron Man cannot simply punch his way out. Tony must save his company, protect his technology, defeat Stane, and expose Hammer before the Stark name becomes associated with failure. Every victory costs Tony something, forcing him to question whether the armor has made him stronger or simply given his enemies more ways to hurt him.
