Iron Man Release Date: May 2, 2008 Plot Summary: Genius billionaire Tony Stark is critically wounded when the Ten Rings ambush his convoy in Afghanistan using Stark Industries weapons. Captive alongside Dr. Ho Yinsen, Tony discovers the terrorists answer to a mysterious, feared master while secretly building a miniature Arc Reactor and a crude armored suit instead of the missile they demanded. After Yinsen sacrifices himself, Tony escapes, returns home transformed, and shuts down Stark Industries’ weapons division despite Obadiah Stane’s objections. As he perfects a sleek new Iron Man armor, Agent Phil Coulson quietly investigates him while Tony destroys Ten Rings operations and protects innocent villages. Stane murders the surviving terrorist leader Raza, steals Tony’s original armor, and creates the massive Iron Monger suit after tearing the Arc Reactor from Tony’s chest. Barely surviving with his original reactor, Tony battles Stane across Los Angeles before Pepper Potts overloads Stark Industries’ arc reactor, destroying Iron Monger. Ignoring S.H.I.E.L.D.’s carefully prepared cover story, Tony shocks the world by ending his press conference with four unforgettable words: “I am Iron Man.” Post-Credits Scene: Returning to his Malibu home, Tony is greeted by Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury reveals the world is far stranger than Tony realizes, mentioning gamma accidents, radioactive heroes, mutants, and other extraordinary individuals before inviting him to discuss the Avengers Initiative, hinting that Iron Man is only the beginning of a much larger world.
