Iron Man is a 2008 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is the 1st film in The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was directed by Jon Favreau, from a screenplay by the writing teams of Mark Fergus, Hawk Otsby, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, alongside Will Smith, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub, and Rachel McAdams. In the film, following his escape from captivity by a terrorist group, world famous industrialist Tony Stark builds a mechanical suit of armor and turns a new leaf as the superhero Iron Man.
