Description of The Witch:
The witch is a dramatic character, so the actor needs to be someone who can pull that off. She has a lot of singing, and requires a talented mezzo-soprano or possibly alto singer. Appearance is not a major factor for the witch, and age does not matter as long as she comes across as rather old. Merryl Streep was in her 60s during her portrayal, but the actress could easily be someone in her 30s.
