In 1950s New York City, gamblers, hustlers, missionaries, and nightclub performers collide in the colorful underworld of Damon Runyon. Nathan Detroit, a charming but perpetually broke operator, needs $1,000 to secure a location for his illegal floating craps game. With his longtime fiancée, nightclub performer Miss Adelaide, demanding that he finally marry her after fourteen years of excuses, Nathan sees an opportunity. He challenges legendary gambler Sky Masterson to take Sarah Brown, the beautiful and fiercely devoted leader of the Save-A-Soul Mission, to dinner in Havana. Certain he cannot lose, Sky accepts the wager. Sarah, desperate to save her struggling mission, reluctantly agrees to the date—but what begins as a bet soon becomes something neither of them expected. After an unforgettable night in Havana, Sky and Sarah return to New York genuinely in love, only for Nathan's schemes and a devastating misunderstanding to drive them apart.
