At 10 years old, Barry Allen is an obsessive math whiz who bounces tennis balls against his bedroom wall and can't stop working problems. He loves his mother deeply, reads Jay Garrick comics, and learns the lesson that will define his life: "Sometimes you have to step away from a problem to see it more clearly." His childhood innocence is the foundation upon which the entire tragedy is built.
