After his wife's death, Hal is infected by Parallax, becoming possessed and leading the remnants of the Sinestro Corps into battle against the Green Lanterns Corps. Ganthet asks that a replacement be chosen on Earth. The ring stays with John Stewart, summoning him to Oa to help in the battle with Hal. Sinestro is also released and temporarily reinserted into the Corps to join the battle once his home planet comes under Hal's threat. Hal is exorcised when Sinestro offers himself as Parallax's new host, intending that John and Hal kill him and take Parallax with him. They reluctantly do so, ending the Parallax threat once and for all while allowing Sinestro to redeem himself. Despite being a reluctant tool, Hal is put on trial. Hal is badmouthing the 'Sprinters' in Central City. Hal passes a tomb saying 'Alan Scott'.
