Now he has buried that son and must guide his grandchildren through their grief. He tells Dick he doesn't need to be Batman. He watches Jason during panic attacks and says nothing, because nothing needs to be said. He lets Tim place Bruce's chess set on the table. He is the voice in their ears, the grandfather in their home, the constant when everything else is loss. His formal demeanor deflects suspicion and grounds the family. He doesn't get to fall apart.
