In New Orleans, Remy LeBeau is a skilled thief with the mutant ability to charge objects with explosive kinetic energy. He is torn between loyalty to his criminal family and the desire for freedom. When a deadly artifact called the Chimeron Stone emerges, Remy is forced into a dangerous mission. The Thieves' Guild demands he retrieve it to maintain their dominance, while the rival Assassins' Guild, led by his former love Bella Donna Boudreaux, is hot on his trail. As Gambit seeks the stone, he crosses paths with mutants on both sides of the law, including an enigmatic fellow mutant, Rogue, and must decide where his true allegiance lies.
