Synopsis

"Freebird Rising" tells the raw, electric, and inspiring story of Steve Gaines, the gifted guitarist and songwriter who became a transformative figure in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Known for his rare blend of soulful, bluesy finesse and fiery, unrestrained rock energy, Steve joined Skynyrd just as the band was losing its creative direction. Through his humble but undeniable talent, he brought fresh energy, hope, and profound songwriting that would soon be recognized as some of the band’s best work. The film follows Steve’s journey from his roots in Oklahoma to the meteoric heights of rock stardom. It’s a story about resilience, family, and the pursuit of a dream even when the odds are stacked high. Audiences will see his formative years, influenced by the blues of the Mississippi Delta, his fierce loyalty to his family, and his sister Cassie, who eventually joined him on tour with the band as a backup singer. Larkin Allen Collins Jr. was an American guitarist and one of the founding members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. He co-wrote many of the band's songs with frontman and original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant.
